SUMMARY:Hand Lettering for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:Spend a pleasant  Saturday afternoon learning how to create you own unique fonts to use for the upcoming holidays.  You can use your new skills for gift tags\, place cards\, envelopes and cards.  This is not a calligraphy class no special skills are required.   You will leave knowing how to slow down a bit and use material you already own  to take your own hand writing to a different level using fonts that are unique to you.\n\nClass is going to be held at JJ Cardinals on Saturday October 19 from 12 to 3pm.  All materials are provided.  All you need to bring is a sense of adventure. \nCost is $35.  You will take home a writing journal and pen to continue your practice. \nClass size is limited to 10 people.  Reservations are required. SUMMARY:Make a Gratitude Card for a Veteran
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of gratitude  at JJ Cardinals .  We will be creating cards for veterans to show our appreciation for all that they do and sacrifice for our country. \nThis is a free event led by Maryann Seibert.  Maryann will show us the latest and greatest fall card making techniques from “Stampin UP” .  The cards will be collected and provided to Help Heal Veterans. Help Heal Vets is a national nonprofit group that provides art and craft kits to veterans.  Inside of every kit there is a card from an individual that expresses their gratitude to the veteran. HHV distributes over 100 thousand kits per year. \nThe cards will be sent at the conclusion of JJ’s and HHV’s Veterans Weekend event Nov 9 & 10.  (see our events listing for more information) \n  \nAll materials will be provided.  The event is open to everyone and all skill levels.  We ask that you register so we can make sure we have enough material available. \nIf you are not able to attend but would like to provide a gratitude card we would be thrilled.  You can drop off your card at anytime that is convenient for you.

DESCRIPTION:On November 9th and 10th to celebrate Veterans Day\, JJ Cardinal’s and Help Heal Veterans will be holding a Free Art & Craft Event for Veterans and their families.  Participants will be given a kit of their choice of – a Bird Feeder\, Wallet\, Slim Line Pen\, Leather Pouch or Journal.   Just come in anytime during our normal business hours on Saturday or Sunday to pick a kit of your choice. \n\nSpace will be set for you and your family to build your projects with support staff available to help. DESCRIPTION:Join us January 25 from 1 to 4 pm  to create unique gel plate mono prints   We will cover the basic process of mono printing on a gel plate. You will be working with acrylics and rice paper to create translucent sheets that work well with collage work\, journaling\, cards\, art work and assemblage.  These sheets can be used if you join us for our collage butterfly class on February 22 . Another bonus is during class you will learn how to develop some simple mask and stencils from magazines\, mailers or file folders. SUMMARY:Gouache and Ink Painting - Modernist Vases of Flowers  with  Rick Goff
DESCRIPTION:On March 8th we are excited to have Rick Goff coming to JJ Cardinals to lead a class on gouache painting.  Rick is an Ann Arbor artist that is known for his bright hues and modernist style.   Rick will cover the basics of working with gouache paints on a waterproof Indian ink background.  Gouache is an opaque water-soluble paint that has bright chalky hues.   Rick creates his works of art on watercolor paper to which he first applies a black Indian ink background. The results give a stained glass window appearance.   A reference drawing will be provided\, but you are free to create whatever makes you happy. \nRick’s works can be seen at the Ann Arbor’s Sunday Artisan Market\, Instagram #artworkbyrickgoff  or his website –  artbyrickgoff.wixsite.com \nYou will leave with a frameable piece of work.   All materials will be provided  to create a special piece that is truly your own design.  No experience is required just a sense of adventure and a willingness to create.  This can be a messy process so wear your play clothes. SUMMARY:Little Houses w/Crow - Simple Works - Linda Chamberlain
DESCRIPTION:On March 22nd we are excited to welcome returning artist Linda Chamberlain of Simple Works. Linda  will show us her unique  technique to create a simplistic highly textured composition.  Linda is from Bay City and is know for her dark highly textured Scandinavian styled art work.  Linda will walk us through the steps of  creating a layered back ground and adding collage pieces to create a dimensional  small community of white homes with a stylized raven flying above. \nLinda’s  work is on display at JJ Cardinals and  is often seen at FIA art fairs and in many Northern Michigan galleries.  You can follow her on Instagram #simple_works_art  or on Facebook SimpleWorksArt. \nYou will leave with a frameable piece of work.   All materials will be provided  to create a special piece that is truly your own design.  No experience is required just a sense of adventure and a willingness to create.  This can be a messy process so wear your play clothes.
